The aging playground equipment was removed, being no longer safe. Kits were quite costly. While exchanging grandparent photos, Steve and Charlie (Widboom) with Beverly and Kitty noticed that the park-type playground structures where basically a "dock" structure. Charlie had worked on the dock replacement after the hurricanes. A napkin drawing was made. Ralph was brought on board and so the project was named The Grampas Playground. All the folks designing and building the structure were indeed grandfathers. The most expensive pieces were the slides. The funding for the project was covered by donations and it was build in stages (the roof was added months later).
